My Experience at Royalton Riviera Cancun

. . . . . . . .
Royalton-View for the Lobby

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the new all-inclusive Royalton Riviera Cancun.

The first thing you'll notice is the resort is a very quick drive from the Cancun airport...just about 15 minutes aboard my Lomas Travel transfer vehicle.

The next thing you'll notice is that the resort has very new and contemporary feel. It is definitely large with about 840 rooms and it is a bit of a trek from one end of the resort to the other.

One aspect I really like is that the resort has both a family and an adults only section which is known as the Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun. As a result, this resort works very well for Destination Weddings as it allows groups that need both a family and an adults only atmosphere to conveniently stay in the same resort.

For my visit, I was fortunate to stay in one of the Swim-up rooms in the Hideaway section.

Note that all photos here are mine taken with a cell phone...

                                                                     The View From My Patio...

I loved all of the various room appointments such as the flat screen TV and the Jacuzzi tub in the room. And, I can say that based on a vast amount of experience with the contrary, the bed (or DreamBedTM as they call it) was extremely comfortable!

The resort does require wristbands but in keeping with the modern feel of the resort, the wristbands also serve as your room key!

One other unique amenity you should be aware is the " All-In Connectivity". This includes:

* Free Wi-Fi throughout the resort
* Unlimited in-room long distance calling to North America and most of Europe
* USB recharge stations
* Bluetooth speakers in room

There are 10 a la carte specialty restaurants, a buffet restaurants, a cafe, as well as, 24 hour room service offered at this resort. One policy I love here is No Reservations Required. This means you have the flexibility to choose the time and restaurant you want without the hassle or constraints of a reservation.

For lunch, we went the Gourmet Marché International Buffet. There was pretty much any kind of food here you could want for lunch. A great salad bar, burgers, mexican dishes, pizza and an amazing assortment of desserts.

For dinner, we went to Hunters Steakhouse which had a wide selection of steaks and chops and overall was very good.

For breakfast on my departure day, I choice the Dorado Seafood Grill in the Hideaway section. This is an open air restaurant for adults only that is open for breakfast lunch and dinner. Love this spot as ocean breeze blows through the restaurant and there is a beautiful ocean view.

I found the staff in both restaurants to be very attentive and friendly. Overall, I would say the food selection and quality is above average for sure.

Bars and Lounges

There are 16 different bars in this resort... Do you think that going to be enough?

There is a night club; the XS Disco, that is open until 2:00am if you are looking for some nightlife.

One other very unique aspect for the bar scene is that they definitely cater to sports fans. They have a great sports bar called Score. They are so serious about ensuring their guests are happy, they even offer a Sports Event Guarantee!

I did take note that the bars offer a very good selection of top shelf brand liquors including GreyGoose, Jack Daniels, and my ol' friend Senor Don Julio, which is, in my way too experienced opinion, some of the best tequila you will find.

During my stay, I did a full tour of the resort. All of the various restaurants, the different room categories and the wedding facilities. This was really the main purpose of my visit as we always invest this time with the resort staff to allow us to better consult with and serve our clients.

A highlight of the tour was the Sky Wedding location. This is an absolutely amazing place for a wedding with a panoramic view of the turquoise blue ocean.

I also took a long walk in the morning to check out the beach. I was very pleasantly surprised that the beach is excellent. It was clean and generally free of seaweed and the sand was very soft on my tender feet!

Finally, here are a few other things you might want to know;

If you are looking for an upgraded experience, the resort offers Diamond Club accommodations.

Diamond Club includes the following additional amenities:

Kid's Club and Activities

Children ages 4 to 12 will love the  Max & Ruby™ and Mike The Knight™ characters. Teens 13 to 17 can enjoy supervised fun in their own separate club.

There is also a small water park at the resort that the kids will love.

This is something that you do not often find in Mexico but there is indeed a Casino at this resort.

There is an extensive SPA and fitness room as well.

More About the Royalton Resorts:

This resort is part of the Blue Diamond resort chain. You can also find Royalton resorts in Jamaica and Punta Cana. In addition, Blue Diamond also operates a few other resort brands including Memories for families and  and Chic, an upscale resort in Punta Cana for adults only.

My Final Thoughts:

I would (and already have on many occasions) recommend this resort without hesitation. Not only does it have allot to offer, but it is also priced aggressively at most times of the year. I think it works extremely well for Destination Weddings, family vacations, and multi-generational groups.
